56-Year-Old Legend Signed Six-Year AEW Deal
An AEW star will be staying put.
Back in December, Dustin Rhodes announced that he’d signed a new “multi-year” deal with AEW.
The star admitted that prior to joining the company, he’d lost his love of wrestling, but that since becoming All Elite, that passion had been rekindled. Although Rhodes didn’t give himself a timeline, he added that he plans to finish his career with the promotion.
While details on Rhodes’ latest contract were originally thin on the ground, a new profile on the star in the Dallas Morning News has confirmed that it’ll keep him with AEW for six more years.
As noted in the feature, should Rhodes remain with the company until the end of his deal, he’ll have been working in the wrestling industry for six decades.
“If he can make it to the end of the six-year deal he signed with AEW over the winter, in which he consults, coaches, occasionally wrestles and acts as an ambassador for the promotion, he’ll have six decades in the business,”
Dustin Rhodes Lays Out AEW Retirement Plan
During an interview two months later, Dustin Rhodes said he plans to retire from in-ring competition in around three years.
Rhodes went on to say that he’s had his final run and final opponent planned for the last two years, although he wants to keep the details a secret. However, he did suggest that he’d love a Sting-style farewell, while conceding that he doesn’t have the same star power as The Icon.
The star said that no matter how his in-ring career ends, he’ll continue to coach and try and pass on his experience to the next generation.
Rhodes will be back in action at ROH Supercard of Honor where he’ll defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship alongside Sammy Guevara.
