51-Year-Old Legend Breaks Silence After Winning First WWE Title in 6 Years

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy recently became new champions in WWE. The last time they won titles in the company was around six years ago on April 9, 2019, when they defeated The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

The Hardy Boyz had a legendary WWE career that spanned many years. They became one of the most famous tag teams in wrestling history. They first entered the promotion in the mid-1990s and quickly gained popularity with their high-flying style and exciting matches.

They won multiple tag team championships during their run, including the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles. However, both brothers eventually left the Stamford-based promotion to explore new opportunities and to deal with personal and career challenges. Matt Hardy left the company in 2020, and Jeff Hardy’s last appearance in the Stamford-based promotion was in 2021.

After that, the Hardy brothers made a tremendous impact in other wrestling promotions. They also had a brief run in AEW before signing with TNA. In Impact, they became the TNA World Tag Team Champions and successfully defended their titles in various exciting matches.

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy Are the New WWE NXT Champions

The Hardys had always expressed their desire to return to WWE for one last run, and their wish came true when they returned to WWE television (NXT) in February 2025 as part of a talent exchange agreement between WWE and TNA. Moreover, they recently unified the TNA and NXT Tag Team Championships during the NXT X TNA Showdown event on October 7.

Matt and Jeff Hardy defeated the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions, DarkState (Dion Lennox & Osiris Griffin), in a winner-takes-all battle to become double champions in both promotions. Following their grand victory at the crossover stage, 51-year-old legend Matt Hardy took to his X (Twitter) account to celebrate the victory.

“Thank you to all the dieHARDYs that have always believed in me & Jeff. YOU FUEL US. #WWE #WWENXT,” Matt Hardy wrote, expressing his gratitude towards the fans for their constant support.
