45-Year-Old WWE Star Confirms In-Ring Retirement
Recently, it seems that every other headline about WWE is revealing a retirement, and this one is about that, too!
The latest in-ring retirement confirmation comes from the man, the myth, the legend: Wade Barrett.
During the live commentary alongside Michael Cole, Barrett revealed that he would not step inside the ring for another match, let alone one within the steel cages at Survivor Series.
Wade Barrett was released from WWE in 2016 and chose not to sign a new contract with a new promotion. He worked in non-wrestling roles before returning to WWE as an NXT commentator in 2022.
Wade Barrett opened up about his exhaustion in WWE
The exhaustion that superstars feel on the road is quite intense. More often than not, pro-wrestlers have expressed the burnout they have felt while being on the road for over half a year.
During his appearance on Talk Is Jericho, Wade Barrett opened up about how he felt about being on the road 275 nights a year, and that the scripts started to get to him.
I was kind of burnt out on the road as [Jericho] said. I mean, when you start on the road, everything’s new and everything’s fresh. You don’t care that you’re not home 275 nights a year, and you’re constantly exhausted, and beat up, and even if you’ve got bad booking or something like that, it’s all fine because you’re living this amazing experience. After I had been up there for several years, I kind of got to the point where even the little things were irritating me, and the travel was really killing me, and I’d get to the arena, and it seemed that every RAW and every SmackDown, every Monday and Tuesday, I’d get to the arena and be so disappointed when the script for the show came out.
Currently, Wade Barrett is working with Michael Cole for Monday Night RAW’s commentary.
