A 37-year-old former WWE champion is seemingly preparing for their wrestling comeback.

Dakota Kai initially joined the Stamford-based company in 2016. She had a five-year run in NXT before getting released from her contract in April 2022.

The New Zealander, however, returned to WWE only three months later as part of Bayley’s Damage CTRL faction. Kai’s second stint lasted three more years on the main roster, during which she held the Women’s Tag Team Title twice alongside IYO Sky.

Last May, the former Damage CTRL member was released from WWE once more. She has since been away from professional wrestling. Nevertheless, she appears to be moving toward a comeback, as Wicked Lester Clothing revealed on Instagram that she is part of their October list of wrestling stars they are designing ring gear for.

Other stars on the list were Natalya, Lainey Reid, Shotzi Blackheart, and the Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair.

Why Did WWE Release Dakota Kai Again?

Following Dakota Kai’s departure from WWE last May, Bryan Alvarez addressed her firing on Wrestling Observer Live, claiming she was the biggest surprise of that release spree.

Alvarez claimed the decision was probably made because the company was breaking up Damage CTRL.

Dakota Kai was probably the biggest surprise, I would say. The story there is – and I don’t know if this is official – but I was told unofficially that Damage CTRL’s done. The group is done.

That probably means maybe Asuka and Kairi might come back as a tag team and IYO’s obviously a big singles star and maybe they just figured that Dakota, she’s not gonna be at the level of an IYO, she doesn’t have a partner, we don’t do a six-woman division so she got cut. But that one is surprising.
