4-Time Champion Left Heartbroken After WWE Replaced Him With Goldberg
A former WWE star recalls being left heartbroken after he was replaced by Goldberg in a match against the Undertaker.
Elias, who is currently signed with TNA under the name Elijah, recently shared his heartbreak while appearing on Inside the Ropes.
At the 2019 WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia, the Undertaker faced Goldberg in the main event.
The match was criticized for its overall quality and the number of botches it experienced. The Undertaker himself referred to it as a “perfect storm of everything going wrong.”
Elias felt frustrated more because he felt he could have put on a better show.
During the interview, he shared how the Phenom personally spoke to him about their potential match.
(Taker) pulls me aside to a little like private room, and he’s like, ‘Hey, we’re going to be doing some business together.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, man. Alright, what’s up?’ He’s like, ‘We’re going to do Saudi, and it’s going to be me and you in Saudi.’ … And we’re getting close to Saudi now because it was like only a few weeks later. I can’t remember who I talked to, but somebody was like, ‘Oh, that’s not happening now.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ They’re like, ‘Yeah, they switched the card up or something like that… they brought in Goldberg.’ And I was like, ‘Ah, geez, dude. He even spoke about the Undertaker running into him after the match, visibly frustrated, saying their match could have been better.
Yeah, and that’s just one of the many heartbreaks along the way that didn’t happen. Not only that, Taker said something similar to that when he was walking back after that match. Like, ‘Should’ve been you.’ And it’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, I agree.’
Elias was a popular wrestler among fans and a match against one of the legends would have transcended his career to new levels.
Ex-WWE Champion Elijah Injured And Out Of Action
At the recently concluded Slammiversary pay-per-view, TNA announced that its top star, Elijah, will miss six to eight months of in-ring action.
The former WWE star competed on the June 17 episode of NXT during which he suffered an injury after landing a high-flying move, although he immediately clutched on to his injured arm.
The 37-year-old was confirmed to have suffered from torn left triceps, requiring surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.
It is fair to state that his move from WWE to TNA skyrocketed his popularity. But for now the injury has paused all progresses in his storyline.
