20-Year Streak May End In John Cena’s Final WWE Match
John Cena will wrestle his final WWE match this Saturday.
Cena will face Gunther in his retirement bout at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, DC. Gunther is known for making his opponents tap out; therefore, a big chunk of the WWE Universe believes that Cena will receive the same fate this weekend.
The last time Cena lost a bout via tap out was on October 24, 2005, and it was during a singles match against Kurt Angle. Sam Roberts believes the fans may see Cena finally tap out after 20 years in his upcoming match against Gunther.
Gunther Might Force John Cena To Tap Out at Saturday Night’s Main Event
Speaking on his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts stated that since Cena is retiring, he could put Gunther over in a major way by tapping out in his match and handing a memorable victory to The Ring General.
Yeah. I mean, Mr. Never Give Up. Never gives up. So that he would… the fact that he would tap out on his way out. I mean, if you’re going to go out on your back, that’s as going out on your back as I’ve ever seen anybody do. So, yeah. I mean, I would not be shocked at all. If they really want to do it, that’s how you really do it. (From 1:03:14)
Cena is hanging up his boots for good, but this is not the end of the road for him in WWE. He’ll remain a key part of the Stamford-based promotion and play the role of a brand ambassador.
“I will be an ambassador to WWE. I’m already signed on for another five years. I was like, “Please, as long as you can do it. I would like to be in this family as an employee, as a contributing part for as long as I can”, Cena told Tom Rinaldi.
