2-Time WWE Champion Eyes AEW Move
A 2-Time WWE Champion is open to joining AEW.
Kayden Carter was released from WWE in early May 2025 during a wave of roster cuts. Signed initially in 2018, she made her mark in NXT, notably as one-half of the tag team with Katana Chance. Together, they captured both the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Her WWE tenure included a successful run; however, despite her impressive accomplishments, WWE eventually released her, citing creative differences and a shift in focus. As of August 2025, Carter looks forward to fresh opportunities outside WWE.
Ex-WWE Star Kayden Carter Wants To Join Tony Khan’s Roster
Speaking in a recent interview on the Busted Openpodcast, Kayden Carter (Lacey Lane) revealed AEW as her preferred destination if she could choose her next wrestling home. She feels AEW fits her style better and offers a stronger support system, contrasting with her WWE experience, where she and partner Kacy Catanzaro often felt isolated. Carter also expressed openness to joining TNA, interested in exploring options that align better with her career vision.
“Okay, so I know people will probably look down at me for saying this but I could give a sh*t because whatever, I wanna work. I think AEW is my speed, because, you know, those girls can f*cking go. I love the way that they work. They don’t bring the bullsh*t. They bring the fists and you know me, I’m a girl that’s down to fight. I love that. So I can see myself there definitely, and just because like I said, I’ve worked with a lot of people from Mexico there, like a lot of people who mentored me. My mentor’s there.”
“A lot of people who would bring great support system to me I feel like, versus where I feel like I didn’t have much. It was like me and Kacy (Catanzaro) fighting the world over there, and again, the girls are great over there but it’s not the same that I’ve connected with people who are over in that business… Even TNA, I would go there because some of the girls there, I know that bust their ass and they’re trying to put the division on notice as well and I’m for it. I just wanna be a part of a legacy.” [H/T Fightful]
Kayden Carter felt creatively restricted during her time in WWE despite her efforts to innovate and contribute ideas. She explained on Busted Open that she often had to follow pre-set plans regardless of her suggestions. This led to frustration, as opportunities to showcase her full potential were limited by creative decisions beyond her control.
“When I got to WWE, I feel like I was just very held back in what I was able to do. I pitched ideas, I put myself out there, I tried new things and it just felt like if that wasn’t the direction they wanted. I kind of had to go with whatever they had prepared for us.”
