News: How Much Money WWE is Spending at Amway Center, PPV Date on Sept. 27, Statement on ThunderDome Fans Behavior
The current arena that WWE is using to produce Raw, Smackdown and pay-per-view events is the Amway Center in Orlando. It’s where WWE has built the ThunderDome structure that was used for last Friday’s Smackdown, this past Sunday’s SummerSlam and last night’s edition of Raw as well.
There have been questions about how long WWE plans to use the facility, how much they are paying and so on. There are new details about it courtesy of Greg Angel of MyNews13 in Orlando.
The deal with WWE moving into Amway Center began on August 14 and runs for at least 78 days until October 31. WWE is paying about $200,000 to rent the Amway Center.
The cost to run a live Raw TV on Monday (also includes taping Main Event) and live Smackdown on Friday (also includes taping 205 Live) is $10,000 for each.
A Sunday event where WWE hosts a pay-per-view like SummerSlam costs $12,500.
It also costs $7,500 for any day where WWE does work inside Amway Center to set up the building or anything else like that.
There is going to be a WWE pay-per-view on Sunday, September 27. Remember, there is also WWE Payback coming this Sunday, August 30 as a follow up to SummerSlam. There is no official name for the September 27 PPV event, but WWE did Clash of Champions in September last year, so it’s likely going to be that.
You can see more of the details below, which Greg Angel posted in a tweet.
Just got full contract between WWE and City of Orlando.
Deal extends 78 days until October 31.
WWE is getting a great deal. Paying at least $200K to rent Amway Center.
$12.5K for Sunday events
$10K for Monday/Friday events
$7.5K for any days WWE works inside Amway@MyNews13https://t.co/gJi8jNT2GWpic.twitter.com/MSDKXSoG87— Greg Angel (@NewsGuyGreg) August 25, 2020
As you can see above also, Jon Alba also of Spectrum Sports 360 in Orlando noted that the agreement is for no fans to attend events through October. That’s why WWE has the ThunderDome structure in place with the virtual fans.
Also, there have been incidents where fans have appeared on the ThunderDome screens with images that are unacceptable. WWE issued this statement today:
“This abhorrent behavior does not reflect WWE‘s values and we have zero tolerance for these unacceptable acts. We are working to ban those involved from future events and per our policies, any inappropriate actions result in the removal from the live stream.”
Some of the images include a man dressed in KKK gear, somebody posting a Chris Benoit photo and even a beheading. It’s ridiculous that there are people doing this to try to get a laugh. We are not going to post any of those images. We believe our role as a website that covers the professional wrestling business and supports WWE is to not publicize this awful behavior by shownig the images. I wish others in the wrestling media felt the same because the “fans” that are doing this are only doing it to get attention and they are probably laughing that it is being posted on internet wrestling sites.
To the trolls out there causing problems for WWE by putting up these images that you know are wrong, please grow up. Be better, people. It’s not that difficult.
