New Matches Announced for WWE Night of Champions Following Raw

TJR Wrestling

Following this week’s “season premiere” of Monday Night Raw, there were three new matches announced and clarification on a championship match heading into Night of Champions this Sunday.

It has been confirmed that Ryback will be putting his Intercontinental Championship on the line in a one-on-one match against challenger Kevin Owens. The Lucha Dragons and Neville will also be competing in a six-man tag team match against the team of The Ascension and Stardust. This match will take place during the Kickoff show on the WWE Network and the WWE YouTube channel prior to Night of Champions.

There has also been a Divas Championship rematch announced between Nikki Bella and Charlotte scheduled for Sunday after their disqualification finish on Raw. For their match on Sunday, Nikki Bella will lose her championship if she is defeated via pinfall, submission, count out, or disqualification.

The Prime Time Players were also defeated in the opening match of Raw by the New Day. This means that New Day will go onto Night of Champions to defend their Tag Team Championships against the Dudley Boyz. This will be the Dudley Boyz first WWE Tag Team Championship match in 11 years. The following is an updated full list of matches scheduled for Night of Champions:

(c) refers to the champion/s heading into the match.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Sting

WWE United States Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. John Cena

WWE Divas Championship: Nikki Bella (c) vs. Charlotte – Championship will change hands via pinfall, submission, count out, or disqualification.

WWE Night of Champions will be available on Pay-Per-View and the WWE Network this Sunday, September 20th at 8:00 pm EST/5:00 pm PST.

Mark’s reaction:

Regarding the new matches, Ryback vs. Owens was one that seemed like a lock at Night of Champions and tonight’s Raw confirmed it. Owens getting a shot at the title is something that is perfect for Owens in his current position with the company. I’d like to see him take the title from Ryback because Ryback has been a boring champion in my opinion, and I always like it better when the heels are the champions and the babyfaces are chasing after the title.

Nikki vs. Charlotte is another match that I knew would get a rematch at Night of Champions and I don’t mind it. I think this is where Charlotte takes the belt from Nikki and ends her way too long reign as Divas Champion. Upon winning the Diva’s championship, I would love for Charlotte to tell Nikki the following night on Raw how her longest reign as champion ultimately doesn’t mean much. Charlotte then pulls an Alundra Blayze/Madusa, tells the audience how they’re not divas but women, and brings back the WWE Women’s Championship because damn I hate calling them divas.

New Day vs. the Dudley Boyz should be gold. They’re two great teams who will hopefully get enough time to pull off an awesome match. Odds that a member of the New Day gets put through a table? I’d say about 90%.

As for the Kickoff show match, I like everyone involved with the exception of the Ascension. They were a solid team in NXT, but just weren’t booked right upon their debut and it’s hurt them ever since. This still has the potential to be an exciting match and I’ll be looking forward to it come Sunday.

That’s it for now. John Canton will have the Raw Deal posted by 12pmET on Tuesday and later in the week, the PPV Preview team will have a full preview of WWE Night of Champions.
