Mordecai Discusses Undertaker Feud Being Nixed Due To A Bar Fight

The Undertaker

Mordecai may have only had a short run in WWE but he was fixtured in for a feud with The Undertaker until a bar fight put the brakes on that plan.

The former WWE star made his in-ring debut on television for WWE against Scotty 2 Hotty at the 2004 Judgement Day event. Prior to that vignettes had been shown as the white-enrobed behemoth encouraged people to “Hear me, fear me.”

Mordecai then went onto battle Hardcore Holly at the next month’s Great American Bash pay-per-view, making short work of Holly as he had done Scotty before the wheels came off his character altogether. At the end of June, he battled Rey Mysterio on SmackDown with the former WWE Champion getting the better of Mordecai and sending him back to Ohio Valley Wrestling.

As the man who came to cast sin out of WWE, Mordecai seemed to be on a collision course with The Undertaker but this never came to pass. The man behind the white cloak, Kevin Fertig appeared on UnSKripted to explain why a planned program with Undertaker and Eddie Guerrero fell by the wayside:

“I was supposed to go against The Undertaker [and] Eddie Guerrero. I was supposed to do a lot of stuff. But I ended up being an idiot and I got into a fight in a bar and it just didn’t work out – just didn’t work out that way, man. So, live and learn.”

With rumours that Mordecai could be in the running as The Undertaker’s WrestleMania opponent in 2005, Fertig admits his youth perhaps got in the way of seeing what an opportunity he had in front of him:

“Getting told you are about to go against The Undertaker and possibly main-event a WrestleMania match – I don’t know if you have the, I guess, business sense [in one’s late 20s]. You always say, ‘Hey, if I could have, would have, should have back then…’ Now at 45, if I could have known what I know now and done it then, it would have been a totally different ballgame.”

Fertig resurrected his WWE career as the revived ECW’s resident vampire in 2006, staying with WWE until the beginning of 2009. The undoubted highlight of his WWE career came when he competed at WrestleMania 23 as part of The New Breed who lost to the team of ECW Originals.
