Kenny Omega Discusses Staying In New Japan; Says No To WWE Royal Rumble

TJR Wrestling

Kenny Omega joined the Wrestling Observer Radio show with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez to announce that he’s likely going to re-sign with New Japan although nothing has been signed yet. He noted that he was going to Japan in mid-February to figure out the contract details. He specifically said that he was interested in signing a one year deal.

Omega also said that he will not be a part of WWE’s Royal Rumble. This is what he specifically said about it: “I will not be at the Royal Rumble. I don’t want people to have this false hope of me showing up in the Royal Rumble and then not being there and being disappointed when there’s a fantastic match happening with fantastic competitors. I don’t want the lack of me being in that to disappoint people.”

He noted that it’s unfortunate that he can’t work for both NJPW and WWE because he has to choose one or the other. That’s why he said he’s going to stay with New Japan for another year.

Omega noted that there’s a small chance that the deal may not happen, but he thinks he’ll be staying with NJPW for another year. He added that WWE’s roster is stacked right now while he feels like he has unfinished business in Japan and can make a big impact there.

TJR Thoughts: I’m not surprised that he is staying where he is. He’s in a great spot in Japan with a contract that likely pays him really well and New Japan is also going to run shows in the United States, so it could be an even bigger year for him. Will he move to WWE in 2018? Perhaps, but for 2017 he’s staying where he is.

Sorry John Cena, maybe next year.
