John Cena Comments on Being a WWE Part-Timer, Roman Reigns, His Haircut, What’s Preventing a Heel Turn and More

John Cena is a 16-time WWE Champion that’s very busy making movies, commercials, appearing on talks shows and other things that don’t involve being in a WWE ring. However, Cena is returning to the ring later this month at live events and he’ll be back on the first Raw of the year on January 7. I would assume he’s in the Royal Rumble match in late January as well, but that hasn’t been officially announced yet.

Recently, Cena sat down with Chris Van Vliet (subscribe to his Youtube channel here) to promote Cena’s new movie Bumblebee and talk about Cena’s upcoming WWE return. Cena also commented on Roman Reigns, The Rock, being a part-timer in WWE and of course, his new haircut.

John Cena on Roman Reigns and his fight with leukemia:

“I texted him the day of the announcement, just letting him know that he is in really good hands. He is part of a very exclusive fraternity. We all love him for what he has done. We all respect the fact that he is taking care of his health, which is first and foremost. And I told him if he needs anything, he knows where to find me. And I know Joe, I know Joe is a tough s.o.b. I don’t ever expect him to say, ‘Hey man, I need this.’ I don’t ever expect to get that text, but if I ever do, I think we have a mutual understanding that it is as good as done.”

John Cena on his new haircut when he returns to WWE TV:

“It’s gonna look weird. Yeah, I don’t know if I can wear a cap. You’ll see.” (laughs)

John Cena on being a part timer while referencing past comments where he was critical of The Rock:

“I owe a lot of what I’ve done in WWE and in cinema to Dwayne Johnson. He’s always been genuine, he’s always shot straight— and that’s on TV and off TV. We have a very good rapport with each other and I’ve told this to him, that I’m sorry, and I can tell it to you. I spoke out of ignorance, I was wrong, and I’m sorry. So for any WWE person right now saying ‘You’re a part timer. You’re going to Hollywood.’ They’re absolutely right. And if they can’t see why I’m making those moves, I don’t expect them to. I don’t expect to change their mind.”

“I’m that guy who goes out and half of them say I suck and half of them like me. The part of them that say I suck, I’m never going to change their attitude ever. They say ‘I want your character to evolve’, well I got a new haircut guys, ‘no I want you to go back to how you were’. It’s the perfect example of you can’t please everybody. I’m out to entertain folks and make people happy and those who do believe in what I do, to reinforce my behavior to keep them believing.”

John Cena on wanting to be a heel and what it is preventing it from happening:

“There are creative feelings inside me that would like to be a bad guy on WWE, but that ain’t gonna happen because that’s not my job. My job is to be who I am and that comes from (Vince).”

In other words, Vince McMahon likely doesn’t want to make Cena a heel and that’s what Cena meant by that comment. I also think Cena’s work with Make-A-Wish plays a big factor in it too.
