Goldberg Announced As Playable Character In WWE 2K17 When You Pre-Order (Watch Trailer Video)

Over the past weekend, WWE has been tweeting and putting all over their social media accounts cryptic images that they called “The Hatch”. The ominous style of the images and the information seemed like it would be associated with a returning from injury Bray Wyatt. However, that was not the case as “The Hatch” was part of a trailer for this year’s WWE 2K17 video game.

During last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw, it was announced in this trailer that former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg would be a playable character in WWE 2K17 if you decide to pre-order. You can watch the trailer featuring Goldberg below.

Here’s a photo Goldberg posted on his Instagram after Raw, showing his view from the back of the squad car during filming for the trailer.

Here’s what Goldberg had to say about it in a press release issued by 2K on Tuesday:

“After 12 years away from the business, I’m incredibly honored to work with WWE and 2K while following in the footsteps of such greats as Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Arnold Schwarzenegger. My son was a big part of this coming together, and I can’t wait for him to see his dad kicking ass in a WWE ring through the magic of video games. I encountered the likes of The Rock, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Ric Flair during my WWE career, and now through WWE 2K17, I’ll be taking on the biggest and baddest Superstars of today – showing them once and for all that I am still ‘Da Man!’”

Mark’s reaction: This will be the fifth time Goldberg appears in a WWE video game. The first three all came in 2003 when WWE had a different video game series for three different consoles (WWE WrestleMania XIX for Nintendo GameCube, WWE Raw 2 for Xbox, and WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain for PlayStation 2). His next and most recent appearance in a WWE video game then came during WWE 2K14.

This news makes me excited as I buy WWE’s video game every year and have done so ever since I was little. Even some years when the game isn’t all that good, it’s become more of a tradition to own it and play it for a good chunk of time. Having Goldberg in the game this year is really cool since it means I don’t have to download him anymore in Community Creations and for the fact that his video game entrance was always one of my favorites. It is a little weird though that WWE’s video games usually come out in October and they’re already advertising to pre-order the game approximately 5 months in advance. (WWE 2K17 is scheduled to be released on October 25, according to PWInsider.)

Now, for those non-video game fans who can care less about playing as Goldberg in WWE 2K17 and just want to know if this means he’ll wrestle for WWE again; for you I’d say that the odds are very likely. Even if he just signed a legends deal and plans on getting inducted into next year’s Hall of Fame (presumably), I still think he’ll wrestle at least one more match with WWE, even if it is only a minute long.
