Former WWE Writer On Creative Issues Between Bray Wyatt & Vince McMahon

Bray Wyatt

A former WWE writer and producer says Bray Wyatt could have been released due to creative issues with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and EVP Kevin Dunn.

Dunn has been part of McMahon’s inner circle since 1984 after both their fathers worked together in the former WWWF beginning in the seventies. Since then Dunn has ascended the corporate ladder of the company and currently holds the position of Executive Vice President, Television Production as well as sitting on the company’s Board of Directors.

Hollywood heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr. spent a part of his later career working for WWE, as part of the creative team between 2008 and 2009 before returning as a producer and director between 2010 and 2012.

The star of I Know What You Did Last Summer, Prinze Jr. was a recent guest on the Ringer Wrestling podcast when he discussed Bray Wyatt being released by WWE:

“I can’t tell you everything I know. I know Bray, I wouldn’t say we’re friends, but we’re acquaintances. But I still have friends at the company. Like I said earlier, if you’re willing to work a specific way, then even if you have a bad match, in the eyes of the top two dudes at the company, it’s a good match because you’re doing business their way. If you’re wanting to step out of that lane and widen your river or just show there’s some other streams, even if you have a great match, it’s just a good match. And when you stick to your guns time and time again they’re going to stick to theirs.”

“Look, Vince is a product of the 80s, it’s Reaganomics. When there’s problems, he throws money at it, it’s an old-school way of thinking. It sometimes works, it sometimes doesn’t, but they’re men that will double down, him and Kevin for better worse they will always double down, and I don’t think Bray had a good enough hand to play poker with them at that game, and that’s why he lost the first time in a weird way in [Saudi Arabia], and that’s why things kind of went south from there.”

Bray Wyatt was released by WWE on July 31st in what came as a shock to many onlookers. As The Fiend Wyatt last competed in for the company in a losing effort against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37.
