TJR: WWE NXT No Mercy 2024 Preview

WWE NXT No Mercy Preview 2024

This is WWE NXT No Mercy featuring Ethan Page against Joe Hendry, Roxanne Perez in action against Jaida Parker, Wes Lee against Zach Wentz, and more.

It’s going to be a quick NXT No Mercy preview from me today because I’m doing this on Sunday morning and this show takes place on Sunday night. I had plans to do it on Saturday, but it was a busy day writing about WWE Bash In Berlin along with a lot of news stories to write about as well. Sometimes you need to take a writing break, my friends, Anyway, I think No Mercy has a solid card and it should be an entertaining show although I don’t think the card is as deep as some of their better PLE shows this year.

NXT Women’s North American Championship: Kelani Jordan (c) vs. Wendy Choo

This one was set up by the mysterious Choo doing some cheap attacks on Jordan and it led to Choo getting a title shot. I think Choo is very talented in the ring, but people might focus a lot on her gimmick that they forget about that. Jordan is still only a couple of years into her career and keeps getting better.

This feels like a match where Jordan should retain the title to further establish her as the first-ever NXT Women’s North American Champion. I don’t think the story is strong enough to warrant a title change. I think NXT’s creative wants to further establish Jordan as a fighting babyface champion and she should get the win here.

Winner: Kelani Jordan

Wes Lee vs. Zach Wentz

It’s the classic former best friends feud with Lee turning heel on Wentz and Trey Miguel, which leads into this match. It should be noted that Wentz won the TNA X-Division Title at TNA’s Emergence PLE on Friday night, so he should be carrying that title into this match. I doubt this is a title match because of that, but perhaps we see Wentz defend it and Lee win it as something to shock people. I’m just saying it’s a possibility.

I think this could be the best match on the show in terms workrate since they are two experienced pros who know eachother very well, obviously. They’ll probably get plenty of time and bring the intensity. I think Lee should win since he turned heel recently because it’s important to establish him as a threat in his new role. Wentz is a TNA guy, so of course he can lose and he’ll be fine.

Winner: Wes Lee

NXT Tag Team Championships: Chase U – Andre Chase & Ridge Holland (c) vs. Nathan Frazer & Axiom

They had a great match when they did the title change a few weeks ago. That’s because Frazer & Axiom really are one of the best tag teams in any company in pro wrestling right now. They are so fun to watch and I’m super high on them as a team. With that said, I think this match will see Chase & Holland retain their titles, which will lead to Frazer & Axiom splitting as a team and going their separate ways as singles guys. I don’t think there will be a turn by Frazer or Axiom. I just think we’ll see them get solid pushes as singles guys and I think Frazer especially can be a main event guy in NXT if they give him a shot. Anyway, look for Chase U to keep their titles in this match.

Winners: Chase U – Andre Chase & Ridge Holland

NXT Women’s Championship: Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Jaida Parker

I am happy for Jaida Parker being in this spot. We learned more about her recently as a former collegiate volleyball player who has only been in WWE for a couple of years and has adjusted really well. She is getting big reactions from the fans while looking like a badass out there. Perez is so good technically that she’s another person on this roster who always has very good matches. It’s a bit of a heel-heel thing here, but I think the fans will get behind Parker in this match. With that said, it should be another Perez win.

After the match, I expect newcomer Giulia to make her NXT debut by confronting Perez. I also think Giulia will be the woman to take the NXT Women’s Title from Perez very soon. I can see them doing it on the NXT premiere on The CW on October 1st, but if they want to wait for the next PLE then that’s fine too.

Winner: Roxanne Perez

NXT North American Championship: Oba Femi (c) vs. Tony D’Angelo

This is a matchup between two babyfaces that hasn’t had a strong story. The story is both guys seek power and have been interrupting each other during backstage promo segments. With that said, I think Tony D is a credible contender. Tony is the former Heritage Cup champion who does get good reactions from the fans. I just don’t think that Femi should lose his title to Tony D. I’m not sure who is going to beat Femi or when because he’s such an amazing powerhouse wrestler who has probably had less than 20 televised matches in his life, yet he’s capable of great matches. A win for Femi makes sense here. I can see them getting about 10-12 minutes for this kind of match.

Winner: Oba Femi

NXT Championship: Ethan Page (c) vs. Joe Hendry – Trick Williams is the referee

This match is an example of how unpredictable the NXT brand can be because if you had told me this would be an NXT Championship headlining a PLE a few months ago then I would thought you were crazy. Neither guy was really on the NXT radar at that point. Page showed up in NXT as a bit of a surprise because we didn’t know he was officially a free agent. As for Hendry, he’s legitimately a full-timer in TNA who has only been a part of NXT for a few months and has obviously won the fans over with his charisma.

The addition of Trick Williams as a special guest referee suggests to the audience that Page could be at a disadvantage here since Trick is his rival too. However, I think Trick as the referee is going to mess something up, Page will take advantage of the situation and Page will keep his NXT Title. I know that I wrote in a recent NXT review that the thought of a TNA guy like Hendry as NXT Champion is a cool idea that WWE should consider, it’s not my official prediction.

I believe that Trick is going to get the NXT Title sooner rather than later because his reign was surprisingly cut short. Maybe Trick wins the NXT Title on one of those early NXT episodes of The CW in October. Those are going to be big events for WWE, so that’s why I’m predicting title changes happening there. Anyway, for this match I’ll go with my fellow Canadian Page over Hendry, who I enjoy watching immensely, but I just don’t see a title change here.

Winner: Ethan Page

BONUS THOUGHTS FOR NXT NO MERCY

The Match I’m Looking Forward To The Most

Wes Lee vs. Zach Wentz because I think it will be the best match on the card.

The Match I Care About The Least

Oba Femi vs. Tony D’Angelo. I like both guys, but the lack of a story hurts it.

Longest Match

I can see Lee vs. Wentz going around 20 minutes while nothing else may go that long.

Shortest Match

Oba Femi vs. Tony D’Angelo going about 10-12 minutes.

Excitement Level on a Scale of 1-10 (1 being low, 10 being high)

I’m around a 7 out of 10. I think this card should be a solid pro wrestling show, but I think they are lacking something. Every match is a regular match, yet we have seen in the past that the NXT brand has had Ladder Matches or gimmick matches to make things more interesting. In this case, other than Trick Williams as a special referee, it’s a very plain card. I think they should have spiced things up a bit more. Maybe the Lee-Wentz match should be a Street Fight or something to allow weapons to be used. Also, I don’t think there is one match that stands out as definitely being the best on the show although it’s probably going to be Lee-Wentz or the Tag Team Title match. As I mentioned throughout the preview, I also believe the NXT brand is going to try to load up those early shows on The CW in October, so that’s why I think they hold off on the title changes until that happens.

I should have a review for NXT No Mercy later tonight on Sunday or early Monday morning. I’m not sure if I’ll be home to do it live.
