Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have been together for nearly a quarter of a century. While their relationship has seen many bright moments, it has also faced significant challenges.

The Game and The Billion Dollar Princess barely knew each other before getting paired in a WWE storyline where they became an on-screen couple in late 1999 and early 2000.

At the time, Triple H was dating the late Chyna. Meanwhile, Stephanie McMahon was also in a romantic relationship when she started working with the 14-time world champion. Nevertheless, their on-screen romance soon turned real.

It was no secret in WWE that the former Chairman Vince McMahon forbade his daughter from dating talent. Hence, Stephanie and Triple H’s decision to date was not entirely welcomed by The Billion Dollar Princess’ family.

In his book, Triple H Making the Game: Triple H’s Approach to a Better Body, the current WWE Chief Content Officer explained that he and Stephanie spoke with Vince before they started dating. Although the former Chairman initially gave them the green light to go out, he then changed his mind, forcing them to break up.

Before anything happened romantically, we spoke to Vince about the situation and he told us it was okay with him. Soon after that, though, he changed his mind. He said he gave it more thought and realized, ‘This won’t work out. You two cannot do this.’ He took it away just like that.

Stephanie’s brother, Shane McMahon, was also unhappy with her relationship with Triple H. In the Mr. McMahon Netflix documentary, which dropped last year, Vince McMahon recalled his son vehemently opposing the love story.

Shane was very much against it. Vehemently so. Shane came to me and said, ‘Dad, you’re letting your daughter date a wrestler?’ ‘Shane, that’s who I am. I’m wrestling, I’m performing, I don’t know what you mean by that.’ And so, to me, it made sense for Stephanie to date and marry someone like Paul.

After a 10-month separation, Triple H and Stephanie went back together. This time, Vince agreed to let them pursue their romance.

Triple H & Stephanie McMahon’s Romance Had A Chyna Problem

While Stephanie McMahon had ended her relationship with her boyfriend at the time before dating Triple H, The Game was still living with Chyna.

Triple H’s relationship with The Ninth Wonder of the World created much drama in all aspects of his life. Chyna accused the Chief Content Officer of cheating on her with The Billion Dollar Princess. It even led to a heated confrontation between Stephanie and Chyna backstage.

In an interview with WrestlingInc. 14 years ago, The Ninth Wonder of the World detailed her backstage encounter with Stephanie, revealing that she threatened to choke out The Billion Dollar Princess.

Stephanie stepped up. She took me into the room, we talked, and she goes, ‘Well, I love him. He’s my man. I’m sorry if you feel that way?’ and I shut her up. I said, ‘Shut up. Call your dad in here because I’m going to choke you out.’ ‘If you really feel that way, take control of yourself,’ then Vince came in and said, ‘Let’s do a new contract. I know this is tough for you but it’s going to be okay.’ Then I went home and I got a fax saying they didn’t need me anymore.

The Game also had to deal with another problem on Stephanie’s side. After learning that he was still living with his ex-girlfriend despite promising to move out, she decided to break things off until he sorted out that problem.

In an interview with Howard Stern, she explained that she and The Game stopped talking for a long time, marking their second breakup.

Supposedly, they [Triple H and Chyna] weren’t dating at that point. They had a house together and they’re trying to get out of the house or whatever. We saw each other for a couple months and then when it came apparent to me that obviously she is living in your house and something’s going on, we stopped talking for a long time.

Eventually, the couple overcame their issues and reunited.

WWE Locker Room Turned On Triple H Because Of Stephanie McMahon

Triple H’s relationship with Stephanie McMahon had unfortunate consequences for The Game. In his book, Triple H Making the Game: Triple H’s Approach to a Better Body, the WWE Chief Content Officer revealed that several co-workers turned on him once her started dating the boss’ daughter.

The Cerebral Assassin disclosed that he was initially bothered by the locker room’s reaction and how some accused him of being in the top spot just for being in a relationship with Stephanie.

People really started to get negative about my role in the company and how it was bulls**t that I was still working but also helping make decisions. It bothered me somewhat at first because I felt that so many of the same people who two years earlier were praising me – ‘You’re the hardest-working guy in the business,’ they’d say or ‘The sh*t you’re doing right now is the greatest thing in the entire industry’ – were now saying I had no talent, no ability, and the only reason I was in the top spot at all was because I was ‘ban**** the boss’s daughter.'”

The rumors of marrying The Billion Dollar Princess continue to haunt The Game to this day. In his interview with Off The Record in 2002 and 2004, he addressed these accusations, revealing that Stephanie’s passion and understanding of the wrestling business tightened their bond.

Triple H & Stephanie McMahon Were Recently Subject To Divorce Rumors

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon married in 2003. The couple has three daughters together. However, their relationship has been subject to split rumors in the past few years.

In 2023, rumors claimed the WWE power couple had divorced. These speculations spread like wildfire, especially after Stephanie was seen not wearing her wedding ring.

However, Triple H’s best friend, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, refuted these rumors on his Kliq This podcast by revealing a text he received from The Game.

So I texted Paul. I said, ‘You okay? Everything all right? I’m here if you need anything.’ He’s just like, ‘What’s happening in my life?’ I said, ‘Social media says that you’re splitting with Stephanie and you guys are getting a divorce.’ He responds to me, ‘F**k it, I wish somebody would have told me that before I get dragged to this JV football game and my girls’ f***ing cheerleading!’

Triple H & Stephanie McMahon’s Health Struggles

In 2022, Triple H suffered a serious heart issue, leading to him undergoing surgery to save his life. As a result, The Game retired from in-ring competition.

During an episode of Stephanie’s Places, the couple spoke about Triple H’s health scare. They teared up recalling that rough patch in their lives, with The Game revealing how it changed his perspective in life.

In this really, weird f***ed up way, like, my heart issue was a gift, made me see things in a different way. I’ve been looking at life differently. You can go through life, no matter how great it is, or all the things you’re doing, and then all of a sudden you partway through it, have a reset, and go like, holy s***, like, this doesn’t last forever. That’s stoic s***.

On her What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon podcast, The Billion Dollar Princess also confessed to always living in fear of losing her husband early. She disclosed that she got over that feeling after he survived his health scare.

Meanwhile, Stephanie also detailed her struggles with mental health. The 48-year-old revealed that she “lost herself” at one point, but regained her confidence after starting practicing jiu jitsu.

I lost myself for a little bit. I lost my confidence, and I found it again in jiu-jitsu.

Stephanie McMahon & Triple H Vs. Vince McMahon

In mid-2022, Vince McMahon retired from WWE amid allegations of misconduct. His daughter, Stephanie, succeeded him as the company’s chairwoman and co-CEO. Meanwhile, his son-in-law, Triple H, took over the creative process. However, Vince returned in January as Executive Chairman despite The Game and The Billion Dollar Princess reportedly voting against his comeback.

Upon her father’s return, Stephanie resigned from the Stamford-based company. Last year, Vince left again amid being sued for alleged sex trafficking and sexual assault by former WWE employee Janel Grant. Over the past few months, reports claimed The Billion Dollar Princess and her husband’s ties with Vince have been cut.

Stephanie seemingly confirmed the reports during a recent episode of her podcast, featuring Nick Khan. When the WWE President brought up her father and mentioned that families are complicated, she agreed but refused to get deeper into the subject.

So, all credit to him [Vince]. I only have admiration for him. I know, as Paul said, Triple H said, at the Hall of Fame speech, family’s complicated. And, obviously, we don’t need to get into any of that,” Nick Khan said. “Yeah, we’re not going any deeper on that. But yes,” Stephanie replied.

As Stephanie and Triple H form a united front against Vince McMahon, reports also suggested the former chairman is unhappy with the direction his son-in-law is taking his former company.
