Cesaro Believes Seth Rollins Is “Mr. WrestleMania” Of This Generation

Cesaro had a lot of praise for the man he defeated at WrestleMania this year, Seth Rollins. Cesaro believes that Rollins has earned the moniker of “Mr. WrestleMania” among the wrestlers of this generation.

The nickname of “Mr. WrestleMania” has been given to WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, who is one of the greatest in-ring performers ever. Michaels earned the nickname, not because of his record at WrestleMania (he lost more matches than he won), but because of how many amazing matches he had.

Some of Shawn’s all-time great matches came at WrestleMania 10 when he lost an epic Ladder Match to WrestleMania, then there was WrestleMania 12 beating Bret Hart in the main event for Shawn’s first WWE Title in a 60-minute Ironman Match. It’s the longest match in WrestleMania history. Fast forward into the 2000s where Michaels had classics with Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 19 in 2003, an even better match with Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, and a memorable WrestleMania 24 match where Michaels beat Ric Flair in an emotional match that was Flair’s WWE retirement match. Shawn’s last two WrestleMania matches may have been his best of all when he faced The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25 (2009) in an all-time classic that some people consider the best WWE match ever and a year later, The Undertaker retired Michaels at WrestleMania 26 in 2010.

Now that Michaels has been retired as a full-time wrestler for over a decade, who has taken over as Mr. WrestleMania? Cesaro appeared on the Out Of Character podcast and thinks Seth Rollins is the answer. Cesaro spoke highly about the man he defeated at WrestleMania 37 this past April:

“It felt right, to be in the ring with Seth, you know, who I shared the road with, who is I think I said it in the 24 as well, I think he is Mr. WrestleMania. All the stuff he’s achieved at WrestleMania that’s second to none. I think nobody can claim that.”

“The matches that he puts on every WrestleMania and SummerSlam as well, every time he gets in the ring, I think we are similar in that mindset, we always try to outdo each other. Obviously when we’re in different matches on the same show as well, but even when we’re in the same one, we try to get the best result possible. And I think we did that at WrestleMania.”

Cesaro beat Rollins in what was one of the best matches at this year’s WrestleMania. It was one of the biggest singles wins in Cesaro’s career because he beat somebody that is the stature of Rollins, who has done it all in WWE.

Rollins has a long list of great matches at WrestleMania his win over Finn Balor and The Miz at WrestleMania 34 to become the Intercontinental Champion, beating his mentor Triple H at WrestleMania 33 and the career highlight coming at WrestleMania 31.

Seth faced Randy Orton at WrestleMania 31 in 2015 with Orton countering an attempted Stomp into a move where Orton lifted Rollins into the air and hit the RKO…out of nowhere to get the pin. Later that night, Rollins would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase during the Brock Lesnar-Roman Reigns match for the WWE Champion with Rollins completing the “heist of the century.” That night ended with Rollins spinning the WWE Title above his head as the WWE Universe was shocked by what happened.
