Brock Lesnar Announced For Live WWE Network Special In Toronto

TJR Wrestling

It has been announced that Brock Lesnar will be appearing on the first WWE Network special of 2016 . The special, which is called “March to WrestleMania”, will take place on March 12 live from the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Ricoh Coliseum holds roughly 10,000 people and is the current home of the Toronto Marlies, the farm team of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Air Canada Centre’s official Twitter account tweeted the following today regarding this news:

“March to WrestleMania” will be Canada’s first WWE Network special and WWE’s third live event network special since debuting the idea on July 4, 2015 with their “Beast in the East” show from Tokyo, Japan. Their last network special (not including NXT Takeover’s) was their “Live from Madison Square Garden” show on October 3 of last year.

Mark’s reaction: Good for Toronto. For some strange reason, that city always seems to get the short end of the stick when it comes to the WWE hosting events there. Yes, they do have live events there but the last pay-per-view WWE held in Toronto was all the way back in 2006. It was the Unforgiven pay-per-view that was main-evented by a terrific Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the WWE Championship between John Cena and Edge. The Toronto crowds are always dynamite and make for such a fun event. Although it’s not a PPV, I’m glad the city at least gets an event that will be aired on the WWE Network.

With that being said, am I excited for this event? Not really. These WWE Network specials are essentially just televised house shows. Odds are there won’t be any title changes or much development happening in regards to story lines. I think the first Beast in the East show was the exception, where we saw a great NXT Championship match between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor. I’d like for more big matches like this to happen during these network specials, I just don’t think they will. I’d be very happy if they proved me wrong once March 12 rolls around. Although stories won’t progress, I still think we can see some great matches.
