Bayley Comments on Not Being in a Match at WrestleMania, Would Have Loved a Non-Title Grudge Match, More

There are 14 matches currently advertised for WrestleMania on Saturday and Sunday, but one of the big names not advertised for a match is former Raw and Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley. It can be argued that Bayley was the top women’s wrestler in WWE last year when she held the Smackdown Women’s Title for most of the year and had one of the best feuds of the year with Sasha Banks, who is the current Smackdown Women’s Champion. There are currently four women’s matches scheduled on two nights of WrestleMania, but Bayley isn’t a part of any of the titles matches or the women’s Tag Team Turmoil although perhaps Bayley could be added to it.

Bayley was interviewed by TalkSport’s Alex McCarthy, who got right to the point asking why Bayley wasn’t a part of WrestleMania in terms of an advertised match.

“I cannot give you an honest answer, dude. I don’t know. I’m sorry guys, it just didn’t happen.”

“Even if there was something, I don’t know if I would tell you guys to spoil it. But yeah, it’s OK. I’ll be here for a long time. I might just jump the barricade and steal my own moment if they won’t give me one. I’ll just steal it.”

Bayley spoke about how she would have loved to be part of WrestleMania even in a non-title match.

“I would have loved to have had a non-title match at WrestleMania. Just a grudge type of match. Something that meant, not more than a title, but was a little deeper than a title. But, there’s always next year.”

“I’m just so happy that more women are going to be represented and I know the two title matches are going to be killer so we can’t really be bummed out about it, we got to look at the bright side I guess.”

When McCarthy wondered if there was some sort of injury, Bayley shot that down and said there were no injuries. Bayley’s last match on Smackdown was on February 19.

Bayley asked what she might do if it was up to her and she had fun with this answer.

“I would challenge Lita. I would just whoop Lita’s little behind. Then my childhood could be happy and complete.”

“Or I would jump the barricade and slap Michael Cole’s headset off. Tell him to get in the ring and we’ll settle it once and for all.”

TJR Thoughts: I think WWE dropped the ball here. They should have come up with something for Bayley considering how good of an overall performer is and especially was in the last year without the fans in attendance. Perhaps they’ll have something for her to do at WrestleMania, but I’m not sure what that is. As you can see from the interview comments, she seems pretty surprised about it too. I don’t blame her because she’s an elite performer that should be part of the show.
