WWE News: Update On Naomi’s Knee Injury; Estimated Recovery Time

TJR Wrestling

Naomi was forced to relinquish the WWE Smackdown Women’s Title this past Tuesday night in the opening segment of Smackdown Live due to a left knee injury.

According to a report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, there was hope from WWE that she’d be back this week, but it was more serious than expected. It was also described as a similar injury to Seth Rollins, but not exactly. With Rollins it was a MCL injury and his recovery time was set for 6-8 weeks. With WrestleMania set to take place in about six weeks, WWE probably felt like it was best to take the title off her and go in another direction with Alexa Bliss as the champion again.

TJR Take: I was genuinely sad for Naomi when she did the promo on Smackdown talking about the injury. She started with WWE developmental in 2009, worked here way up from being a dancer in the Funkadactyls gimmick, she improved in the ring and reached a point with the “Feel the Glow” entrance where she really got a lot of fan support in the last few months. When she won the title at Elimination Chamber the fans were really happy for her because we have seen her go from being just a girl on the show to improving a lot in the ring. Hard work pays off, so that’s why fans chanted “you deserve it” for her.

All the best to her in her recovery. Hopefully she’s back in two months or less and possibly in time for something at WrestleMania as well.
