WWE News: Handicap Match for US Title set to main event Raw on Monday January 9

TJR Wrestling

It was announced on Friday that the main event of Monday’s edition of Raw in New Orleans will be Roman Reigns defending the United States Championship against both Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho.

The announcement was made via WWE’s social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and it’s on WWE.com as well.

There’s no explanation as to why Mick Foley, who is supposed to be a babyface General Manager, would make Reigns defend the title against two guys. Perhaps it was Stephanie McMahon that made the decision. Once again, this is not addressed at all.

In addition to the US Title match, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels will also be at Raw this week. Goldberg and Brock Lesnar are not expected to be there.

TJR Thoughts: When Reigns defended the US Title against Jericho on Raw last week in a match where Reigns could have lost the title by disqualification or countout, I thought Jericho might win. He didn’t. Now they’re having Jericho and Owens in the match against Reigns, so this could be where Jericho wins the title. I think they might do the title change just because I strongly believe Reigns is winning the Universal Title from Owens at the Royal Rumble.

Raw continues to feature Reigns, Owens, Jericho and likely Seth Rollins constantly. I like all of them, but we’ve seen almost every combination of their matches. At least a handicap match is different. I don’t know if it will be any better, though.
