WWE Announces Cole, Lawler & Graves Will Announce Royal Rumble Match

TJR Wrestling

During last night’s edition of Talking Smack on WWE Network after 205 Live, it was announced that Jerry “The King” Lawler will announce the Royal Rumble match along with Raw’s Michael Cole and Corey Graves on January 29 at San Antonio’s Alamodome. They made it clear that Lawler will just call the Rumble match with Cole and Graves rather than the entire pay-per-view event.

Lawler was removed as a regular commentator when the brand split happened in July. He served a role on WWE Raw, Smackdown and pay-per-view preview shows as well, but those were changed up in the last few months as well. Lawler doesn’t have a regular role now, so this is a way to have him stay involved as part of one of WWE’s most important shows of the year.

Lawler was at last night’s Smackdown conducting a King’s Court interview with Dolph Ziggler. It ended with Ziggler hitting a cheap shot superkick to knock Lawler down in his hometown of Memphis.

TJR Thoughts: It’s cool with me. I think Graves is WWE’s best announcer. They probably didn’t want JBL as part of it because he’s the heel announcer like Graves. I’m a bit surprised that nobody from Smackdown is a part of the team, but I guess Lawler can fill that role.
