Update On Shelton Benjamin Returning To WWE

TJR Wrestling

Former WWE Tag Team, United States and Intercontinental Champion, Shelton Benjamin, was set to return to WWE this past August. Benjamin was going to be on Smackdown Live and a video package for his return even aired on July 26, which was the first episode of Smackdown’s “new era” since the WWE Draft.

However, it was later revealed that Benjamin would not be returning to WWE just yet because he had to have shoulder surgery due to a torn rotator cuff. Benjamin was wrestling with this injury for two and a half months before he found out how bad it was. The severity of his injury was revealed during WWE required medical tests. The usual recovery time for the kind of surgery he needed is 6-9 months.

Soon after the news broke of Benjamin’s injury and required surgery, he was a guest on WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross’ podcast, The Ross Report. Benjamin said that he was told by his doctor that his recovery time could be as short as six months or as long as one full year. Benjamin also sounded a bit hesitant as to whether or not an offer to go back to WWE would still be on the table upon fully recovering.

Whether or not his WWE offer is still on the table, Benjamin recently noted on Twitter that he plans on making moves to return to WWE and gave an estimate as to how much longer he’ll be out of action for.
