Former WWE Intercontinental, United States and Tag Team Champion, Shelton Benjamin, will be returning to World Wrestling Entertainment after being away for the last six years. During his time away from WWE, Benjamin has been wrestling on the independent scene in promotions such as Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The former All-American from the University of Minnesota will be taking his talents to Smackdown Live every Tuesday night on the USA Network. It was announced during tonight’s (July 26) episode of Smackdown in a video package that you can watch below.

Mark’s reaction: Great to have Shelton back in WWE! I’ve always been a big fan of his solo career and his tag career with Charlie Haas as The World’s Greatest Tag Team. Don’t expect Haas to sign as he’s 44 years old and focused on his family. He also runs a nutritional store with his wife, former WWE wrestler Jackie Gayda (aka Miss Jackie), in his home state of Texas.

Benjamin is 41 years old, but he’s still very good and, in the immortal words of Mark Henry, I think he’s “got a lot left in the tank”. There were reports that WWE wanted to bring back veteran talent now that the brands are split and Benjamin is the perfect addition. Welcome back, Shelton!
