Report: WWE Bringing Several Contracted UK Talent to San Antonio This Weekend

TJR Wrestling

World Wrestling Entertainment is reportedly bringing several of it’s contracted U.K. talent to San Antonio this weekend for Royal Rumble weekend. This is according to Dave Meltzer’s latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Tyler Bate (WWE United Kingdom Champion), Pete Dunne (runner-up in the U.K. Championship Tournament) and Trent Seven have been pulled from a podcast they were supposed to be guests on called Working a Resthold. They were scheduled to do the podcast right before a World Xtreme Wrestling show in London this Saturday, January 28. Dunne was scheduled to take part in a tournament match on the show before WWE pulled him from that as well.

Since Bate, Dunne and Seven were pulled from the podcast and London wrestling show, it’s safe to assume that they are three of however many contracted U.K. talent WWE’s bringing to San Antonio this weekend. Although Dunne is still being advertised for a Progress Wrestling show on Sunday, January 29, Meltzer states that he was told Dunne will be removed from that as well.

Meltzer notes that the original list of U.K. talent WWE planned on bringing to San Antonio was Bate, Dunne, Wolfgang and Mark Andrews, plus a fifth person (likely to be Seven due to the aforementioned news).

The next big question is, why is WWE bringing them to San Antonio this weekend? That is not yet known. They can be involved in the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, maybe some of them participate in the Royal Rumble Match, or they show up at NXT Takeover: San Antonio the night before Royal Rumble. I can also easily see them briefly being shown at ringside during Royal Rumble or Takeover, where they wave to the fans while the commentators hype up the U.K. Championship Tournament on the WWE Network or announce details of a weekly WWE U.K. show in the future. We shall wait and see!
