Report: Jeff Hardy Signs New Contract With TNA Impact Wrestling

TJR Wrestling

Former WWE and TNA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy has re-signed with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. TNA President Dixie Carter made the announcement of Hardy’s re-signing through her Twitter account this morning. She tweeted the following, mentioning that Jeff will kickoff tonight’s edition of Impact Wrestling:

Hardy’s current contract with TNA was set to expire in a few months; from this, speculation arose as to whether or not he would be returning to World Wrestling Entertainment. Hardy was a guest on Ric Flair’s WOOOOO! Nation podcast last December, where he talked about the possibility of the Hardy Boyz returning to the WWE and taking on the Dudley Boyz one last time. Hardy said that there’s a huge possibility of going back to the WWE and how him and his brother Matt would love to end their careers there. I covered that story for TJRWrestling last month, so you can click here if you’d like to check out Hardy’s comments and the full story. Although a Hardy Boyz return to the WWE is still possible, it won’t be happening any time soon.

This news of Hardy’s re-signing comes just one day after TNA announced that The Wolves signed a new deal with the company as well. You can read about that here. The details of Hardy’s new deal with TNA have yet to be disclosed.

Mark’s reaction: This is a bit of a bummer, at least for me it is. I used to be a big fan of TNA, but I have really soured on the brand and don’t really watch it at all anymore. There’s just so much wrestling out there right now between Raw, Smackdown, NXT, Lucha Underground, NJPW and ROH, that TNA is just not on my priority list. I have friends who check it out, so if I hear them raving about a particular match I’ll usually give it a watch. I still think TNA was at its best from around 2004-2006.

With that being said, I probably won’t get to see much of Jeff now that he’s re-signed with TNA. I was looking forward to the prospect of a returning Hardy Boyz to the WWE’s tag team division. They’ve got a lot of great teams on the main roster and NXT that I would have liked to see them square off against. It could still happen in the future, it just won’t be for a while.

TNA must have been happy to lock down Jeff as WWE has been getting a lot of attention lately with their signings of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson and Austin Aries. TNA is in enough trouble as it is (losing talent and bouncing around between TV networks), so losing a wrestler like Jeff would have been quite a blow to the company. I’m happy for Jeff as this new deal most likely accommodates his needs better than what WWE would have probably been looking for. TNA has more of a lax schedule while the WWE may have wanted Jeff to be a full-timer, similar to the Dudley Boyz. Maybe a part-time deal, more in tune with that of Chris Jericho’s, is something Jeff would be looking for with the WWE.
